This can be as far ranging as not drinking water or no dogs allowed to unauthorized access being forbidden. When designing this type of sign, it is important that the sign makes reference to any particular laws that the sign pertains to. The message needs to be clear and understandable ‒ either through the text itself or by the use of helpful graphics. Sometimes a combination of both can be helpful.

The shorter the message, the more likely it is to be read. Keep the information concise. These types of signs can also be any colour, though ‘warning’ or ‘do not’ signs do tend to be red or black on a white background in order to stand out and also to follow the universal recognition for danger or warnings. Prohibition signs are usually linked with a red circle containing a graphic of the forbidden action, this is then crossed through. It can be useful to employ this style in your sign.
